“Prudence”—one of the four “Cardinal Virtues”. Webster says it is “wise thought before acting; good judgment”.But it seems many of us don’t really have that gift when it comes to Global Warming(GW).
The driving force behind GW is obviously pushing an agenda without the virtue of “prudence”. Because wise thought precludes any rash action, one would think that pure science would be a good place to start.
‘Environment’ is high on every list of religious concerns, but knee-jerk regulation forces a non-solution to a perceived problem.
Groups such as the Evangelical Climate Initiative(ECI) want to exercise a biblical mandate to maintain a prudent dominion over the earth. In other words, they believe there must be drastic action to curb CO2 emissions for the sake of the world and the world’s poor.
It seems as though ‘proper care of the created world’ is already occurring. But one should be highly concerned with the reaction of some Religious.
Even Catholic Archbishop Cardinal George Pell ridiculed the ‘semi-religious’ belief in GW, and compared fears to superstition. Historically, global cooling has been the harbinger of starvation(i.e., the Great Famine of 1913).
It is true that we have the cleanest atmosphere by far in comparison to yesteryear. Almost all waste disposals are done in an environmentally friendly method now, significantly improving on what was done 50 years ago.
It’s irresponsible to blame things like increases of malaria on GW. Malaria outbreaks resulting in thousands of deaths can be traced directly back to the elimination of ‘DDT’. Amazing how ‘DDT’ practically eliminated malaria, and is an order of magnitude less toxic as once was thought.
It’s also reckless to blame hurricanes like Katrina(flooded New Orleans) on GW. The flooding was directly due to two levee breaks that had nothing to do with GW. God would not likely want scientific facts left out of the debate.
Dennis Avery, Fred Singer, and hundreds of other climatologists have concluded that “Within the 90,000 year ice-age cycles, global warming and cooling seem to be a part of a 1500 year cycle of moderate temperature swings…”
Scientific analysis of ice cores have shown the same unmistakable 1500 year cycle. It was determined that CO2 changes over a million years do not correlate with temperature increases. Actually, higher CO2 levels spur agricultural output.
Greenland(past year) has been found to be ‘gaining’ ice mass, and Antarctica(satellite measurements) has been found to be gaining 45 billion tons/yr. Sea levels have been rising since the last ice age(20,000 yrs), but there is no evidence of any acceleration.
Data for the last few years indicate warming—but only 0.8oC for the last 100 years. Very recent data proves that cosmic radiation from deep space increases cloud formation, which directly impacts warming. But the sun’s magnetic field can change cosmic radiation reaching the earth.
Denmark climate scientist Henrik Svendsmark admits that “We have the highest solar activity we have had in at least 1000 years”, and lately a period of reduced cloud cover. It is known that the major influence on ‘warming’ is water vapor(clouds), not CO2(<5%). Interestingly, God also made our sun a variable star by several %. Without a doubt, human existence is the ultimate.
So why do we know that limiting greenhouse gases will only give us higher taxes, and more rigid restrictions? Government and private studies have both calculated that adherence to the Kyoto Protocol(greenhouse gas ‘saviour’) could cost the US $348 billion by 2012, and the world 1 trillion/yr. That’s several times what it would cost to provide the world with clean drinking water and sanitation—which would prevent millions of deaths annually from intestinal diseases.
Along with that, those studies predict 1.3 million jobs being destroyed, as well as the present standards of living being ‘substantially affected’.
The real danger is that we will handcuff economies and hammer poor families to promote solutions not needed, when the evidence points to ‘moderate’ heating primarily natural in origin. The bona fide catastrophe is that we are using bogus claims about a climate cataclysm to justify depriving earth’s most impoverished citizens of electricity and technology.
GW fanatics seem to be coming out of the woodwork as to how this will destroy the earth. Does everyone forget what “Revelation” says about the end of the world?
The end will come by God’s hands—not man’s.
