The troubled Diocese of Ferns has just settled with a victim of clerical abuse referred to in the Ferns Report (click on link provided to access Ferns report) as 'Pamela' which now brings the total settlement in the Diocese thus far to €4.7 million.
A synopsis of Pamela is as follows:
* became friendly with a priest referred to as Fr Iota;
* Fr Iota started to abuse her when she was 13-14 years old;
* became pregnant by Fr Iota at 18 yrs. old;
* reported Fr Iota to Fr Kappa who also abused her;
* her GP reported the matter to the late Bishop Herlihy;
* Herlihy transferred Iota to cardinal Heenan of Westminster describing Iota as 'a gentle, refined young man'
* Iota returned to Ireland and left unsupervised with children;
* removed from ministry by Bishop Eamon Walsh during his tenure as Apostolic Administrator
Pamela has let it be known that she and her family has been treated with great dignity by current incumbent, Bishop Brennan (pic alongside)
