Vatican message to Islamic world: work together to end religious violence

In a message to the world’s Muslims, released for the end of Ramadan, the president of the Pontifical Council for Inter-Religious Dialogue says that all believers should “oppose violence among followers of different religions and promote peace and harmony among the various religious communities.”

Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran noted in his message that the problem of violence is “unfortunately, a pressing subject, at least in certain areas of the world.”

He called attention to the exchange between Vatican scholars and representatives of Egypt’s Al Azhar University, which was devoted to the theme of curtailing religious violence.

The cardinal called attention to the conclusions of that inter-religious dialogue, which urged a greater effort to educate young people to respect other faiths.
