Bishop Brennan launches new book on Wexford saints

The Bishop of Ferns Dr Denis Brennan recently launched a new book that details all the saints who hailed from the Diocese of Ferns.

A Calendar of Saints of the Diocese of Ferns is written by Canon Seamus S De Val and is a 36-page publication containing a biographical list of the saints from the diocese with a particular reference to the parishes from which they come.

Speaking at the book launch in the Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy Bishop Brennan described the publication as, “an inspirational read for people of the modern world.”

“The book puts the spotlight on people from the County Wexford region who, down through the centuries, have lived lives which can only inspire those who follow in their hallowed footsteps with special relevance to the testing times of the modern age.”

Bishop Brennan also praised the author, well-known religious scholar and local historian Canon Seamus S De Val from Bunclody who last June celebrated the remarkable achievement of 60 years as a priest, an occasion that was marked by a special presentation to him, by Cardinal Seán Brady.

Bishop Brennan said that the project for Canon Seamus was truly “a labour of love.”

The book, which is also known by its Irish title Feilire Fhearna, costs €5 and is available through the Ferns diocesan office or a number of local bookshops throughout County Wexford and surrounding counties.
