Gardaí have launched an investigation after the Bishop of Killaloe and the diocese were the victims of fraud.
Bishop Kieran O Reilly's office became aware of a number of incidents in recent weeks in which an individual - unconnected to the diocese, ordered €3000 worth of goods by telephone from traders, using a Diocesan staff member’s name, and claiming to be acting on behalf of the bishop.
The items in question were high end products such as electrical goods.
A version of diocesan stationery and a copy of the Bishops signature were also used.
