Well-known speakers lined up for Carlow novena

One of Ireland's most famous newscasters is to speak at a County Carlow novena this summer.

RTÉ newsreader Anne Doyle will speak at the sixth annual Craigcullen Solemn Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Monday June 27.

The novena commences on Monday May 2 and continues on for nine consecutive Monday nights.

On each evening of the novena the rosary will be recited starting at 7:10pm followed by Mass at 7:30pm.

As with other years, on each night of the novena a special guest speaker will speak during the mass about their work and how their faith guides them.

Apart from Anne Doyle this year’s Novena offers a very impressive array of speakers.

The first speaker at the novena on May 2 will be Northern Ireland's first Police Ombudsperson, Baroness Nuala O'Loan.

She will be followed by Jonathan Irwin founder of the Jack and Jill Foundation.

Other speakers include the world famous Christina Noble who founded the Christina Noble Foundation (May 16), while the former President of Saint Patrick's Seminary in Maynooth Monsignor Michael Olden will speak on June 6.

Petitions placed at the foot of the cross during Lent will be offered up in prayer during the novena.
