The Italian Episcopal Conference's Bagnascodescribes sexual abuse committed within the Church as a"serious wound".
Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco also spoke of theRoman Catholic Church's commitment to fighting sexual abusescommitted by members of the Church "in keeping" with theguidelines set out by the Pope as the once head of theCongregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
Bagnasco, speakingat close of the Italian Episcopal Conference's GeneralAssembly, also said national guidelines are "in an advanceddrafting stage".
"As bishops we have been working withqualified experts, including bishops, with a view to providinga full enactment of the Holy See's directives."
The cardinalalso submitted that the final draft will be delivered ahead ofschedule, prior to May 2012.
