THE Archbishop of Kampala, Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, has asked the Government to stop people who are grabbing Catholic Church land in several parts of the country.
Addressing worshippers at Rubaga Cathedral during Christmas Day celebrations on Saturday, he said despite the passing of the Land Bill, cases of land grabbing had persisted.
“We have big pieces of land in Namugonde, Kakindu, and Kisubi parishes which have been grabbed, fenced off with barbed wire and are under armed guards,” Lwanga said.
Other areas where church land is being grabbed are Ttakajjunge, Mpigi, Buyege, Nabijano and Nsambya, where he accused RDCs of “playing an active role”.
He castigated the haste by Parliament to pass “unjust laws” like the one opposed to traditional leaders.
“Why not table a bill on the recently discovered oil and how we shall benefit from it? Do not send signals that might cause you not to be re-elected,” Lwanga advised.
He urged Ugandans to pray for peace in the upcoming elections.
Lwanga called for equitable distribution of economic resources and a streamlined political system that would ensure power sharing and continuity.
