A prominent Tipperary based musician will next week launch a new mass hymnbook, which is entirely his own composition.
Roscrea musician Seamus Doran launched his new mass hymnbook entitled Lead me Home at Damer Court Hotel in Roscrea on Tuesday January 25.
All the hymns written in the book were composed by Seamus himself and the book not only includes the words of the hymns but also the written music that will make it a lasting legacy for musicians and singers for generations to come.
Speaking this week, he said that the idea for writing a book of hymns came about after Roscrea Folk Group's pilgrimage to Lourdes in 2009.
“Before that pilgrimage the Folk Group asked me to compose a hymn for them to be sung at the masses in Lourdes.”
Seamus duly obliged composing Immaculate Conception which is now the anthem the Folk Group uses when it travels to Lourdes.
Apart from the composition of mass music, Seamus has also released a number of songs in honour of his native Tipperary and their most recent hurling exploits.
In 2009 he released The Mighty Blue and Gold and within hours of Tipperary winning the 2010 All-Ireland Senior Hurling final he released the song Were You There - both of which have become strong hurling anthems in the county.
